Not my usual style...

I was asked by a friend to do a 'formal' photo shoot. If you know me at all...you know that is NOT my style. I'm not great at it and I'm really just more of a 'go with the flow' sort of photographer. But, this was worth the exception to the rule. These sweet girls' Great-Grandfather was a portrait photographer for years and has always done their pictures. However, he is not feeling well these days and Grandma wanted to update the portrait that is in their living room. So...I gave it the old college try. Big Miss R did a wonderful job and was a champ while we attempted to convince her 2 year-old sister, Little Miss R... to cooperate. I have some really funny outakes for sure.

The bad part about this photo shoot is that now Little Miss R is going to think it's okay to sit on the end table!

This rocking chair has been in the family for several generations and Great-Grandpa recently did some restoration work on it. I hear he was quite a fix-it man in his time!

These are the moments I love...the 'in between' shots of interaction and love. Little Miss R LOVES her Great Grandma and Papaw. Thanks for trusting me to try and capture some portraits for you Mr. & Mrs. A....I know mine could never live up to the work you once did, but I hope you love them just the same!

Love That Shot...Splish Splash!

Today's theme at Love that Shot...splish splash!

Given all of the rain we've had in the last 3 days...we now have a running river in our yard! Had a little fun with this one!

I [heart] Faces...Let's hear it for the boys!

Boys are cool. Having never been a boy before...I find them extremely interesting, hilarious, and super fun. If they aren't huddled up in a corner somewhere playing 'guys' - they are probably tangled up on the floor attempting the latest and greatest headlock move. They make my heart smile.

I Heart Faces challenge this week is all about the boys...

Senior Shoot

Man. This kid is amazing. I mean, really - I was in awe of him. He's focussed, he's driven, he's talented. What's not to love? He loves God first and foremost. He is blessed with musical talent..which I admire because I have NONE. He's an athlete. He says "yes M'am" and "yes, sir" to his parents. When I asked if things were okay with him, he deferred to his parents - but not in an "I don't know" or "I don't want to make a decision" sort of way. It was total respect. Seriously - this guy is a winner. He's going places. It was a total and complete joy to begin his senior pictures today...and I say "begin" because we got rained out. It stunk. I kept second guessing myself and wondering if we should have waited a little longer...but in the end the decision was made and I just had to go with it. We'll finish up soon - I hope! Here's a few of the shots we got today...I loved them. The location was incredible and like I said, this was a super fun family!

Cousins

So we went out with the intention of taking some fabulous 'cousin' pictures for the Grandmas, for us, for whoever wanted them. It was raining all morning and had it been up to me, we would have totally bailed for another day. However, my oldest niece was insistent that WE COULD DO IT! So, we primped, coordinated, tee-heed, and then headed for an abandoned lumber yard and new secret place that runs under a bridge. Some of the children, who shall remain nameless, were less than cooperative. They ran off, stood in the rain run-off from the shelter, climbed on the dirt/mud piles around, and overall made it difficult to efficiently take pictures of 7 children. Oh, was it supposed to be efficient? Whatever...I had my vision of the perfect shoot! By the time we left for home, I was a bit discouraged and really didn't have that 'warm, fuzzy' feeling that I'd hoped for. However...when I loaded the pictures and checked them out...I was so pleased!! Those feelings of frustration and memories of herding cats (children) for those captures were fading as quickly as labor pains when you hold your newborn miracle. I love the pictures. They are very representative of WHO they are, which is the ENTIRE point anyway! Hope the Grandmas like them!

Oh Baby!

The two things in this world that speak straight to my heart are babies and photography. I love when I get to combine them!
Meet sweet Baby M, nine days old in these shots. Congratulations to Mom, Dad, and big brother! Oh, and welcome to the world, Baby M!

She finally graduated!

Riley Megan graduated from swim lessons with Mrs. Logan (who we love, by the way), and swam in her first meet with swim club!! It's very important for a girl to coordinate...suit, cap, even gatorade!
What this photo doesn't show is the false start...she jumped in at one end when her team mate jumped in on the first leg of the relay at the other end! She had to quick jump back out and wait for her turn. Too cute.
I really don't know what to say about this. I should be more concerned about modesty, yes - but for some reason it just cracks me up!
She was ALL business, ALL the time. She loved it and I have a feeling we'll be watching her swim for years to come. Bring it on!!
